Famous for his temperament and emotional approach, Mikhail Gubsky continues to explore the dramatic depth of his characters on stage. A winner of many vocal competitions in the 1990s, the Pechkovsky competition in Sankt-Petersburg in 1996 in particular, Mikhail Gubsky has built a prominent career as an opera tenor, not only as a soloist of the Novaya Opera Theatre or the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow but also as a sought-after tenor in Europe and America. With more than 50 roles under his belt, he was recently engaged in the performance of Madama Butterfly at the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theater. Other recent engagements include Hermann in The Queen of Spades for the Minsk Opera Theatre, Manrico in Il Trovattore for the Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, Tristan in Tristan und Isolde for Regensburg Theatre under the baton of Maestro Tetsuro Ban, Canio in Pagliacci for Oslo Opera House, Pretender in Boris Godunov for Santiago Opera House, Radames in Aida for Krasnoyarsk Opera Theatre and Cavaradossi in Tosca for Samara Opera Theatre. In 2017 Mr. Gubsky made his debut as Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk for Santiago Opera House under the baton of Maestro Chudovsky and as Herodes in Salome for the Novaya Opera Theatre.

His concert experience includes Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, and Shostakovich’s song-cycle From Jewish Folk Poetry which he performed with Maestro Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic of Russia. Mikhail Gubsky is an ardent supporter of vocal music written by contemporary composers. One of the recent performances includes Szymanowski’s King Roger under the baton of Maestro Jan Latham-Koenig in the Novaya Opera Theatre in Moscow.

During the years of his successful career, Mr. Gubsky also appeared with Hungarian State Opera House and Teatro Massimo of Palermo, having the opportunity to work with such prominent conductors as Mikhail Pletnev, Eugene Kolobov, Mark Ermler, Alexander Vedernikov, Yuri Kochnev, Dmitri Yurovski, Sergey Stadler, Kent Nagano, James Conlon and Tom Woods among others.

In 2023 Mikhail Gubsky was announced Singer of the Year by ‘Musical Review’ for the performance of the title role in ‘Der Zwerg’ by Alexander von Zemlinsky.
